Making The Most of Stonefruit This Summer

Summer and Stonefruit go together like Christmas Day and eating so much you might pop. I've already gone through countless boxes of cherries since they came into season. Now it's all about the peaches nectarines, plums and apricots, I'm so obsessed with them all right now! Today I've been experimenting with smoothie recipes using nectarines, which are one of my favorite fruits. There are 3 different types of nectarines - who knew! Until recently I had no idea there was more than one. Hunnys are the newest variety of nectarine. They have very low fruit acidity meaning they taste sweeter and are more mellow than your traditional classic tangy nectarine, although they look almost the same from the outside. These are the ones I made my smoothies with. The other two types are the Classic nectarine which is full flavored with yellow flesh, and the Pearl, which is sweet and juicy with white flesh. They also produces 3 types of peaches and 14 types of apples which are all NZ grown, and the best fruit are kept here in NZ rather than being exported. You can find their fruit at New World, Pak N Save and Four Square. Here are my favorite smoothie recipes this summer using these beautiful fruit.
