Sun, sand and sea course through my veins just as much as my blood; I grew up by the ocean and was lulled to sleep each night by the sound of waves crashing on the beach. I find if I don’t get time breathing in some fresh salty air at least once a week, I get a homesick feeling like something is missing from my life.
So of course the beach is where I'm spending a lot of time over the summer months, running on the sand with the bat monkeys every morning, taking Lily for swims, having picnics and renting a paddle board now and then. I'm incredibly lucky to live in Auckland where there are probably a hundred different beaches to choose from so it really is another day, another beach!
You don’t need much for chillaxed beach days, but there are a few essentials that I keep on hand all summer.
I use Bondi Sands tanning foam to even out my tan, it’s cruelty free and gives a beautiful dark color in one application. Once you use tanning foam you won’t go back to anything else, it goes on so smoothly and evenly!
I love huge beach towels that both Lily and I can fit on. I’m loving this Chevron print at the moment, it’s a gorgeous design and super soft!
So I have to admit (sorry!) I’m not big on sunscreen…. but I'm not an idiot when it comes to sun exposure. I prefer to cover up when the sun is really intense with wide-brimmed hats and tops that cover my shoulders, and to stay out of the sun in the middle of the day. We tend to go to the beach early to mid morning or late afternoon when its not quite as hot. But I do use a high SPF on my face, because a Rudolph nose is not a good look! The Natio range is really good and reasonably priced, I love the SPF moisturisers and After Sun cream with Aloe and Cucumber.
I always keep a spare bikini the car because you never know when you might go for an impromptu swim! This is the one I splashed out on before Christmas, the Camilla & Marc Mulholland Pythia One Piece.
I always wear a fitness watch to track my movement throughout the day whether I’m swimming, running or walking. I have worn them for years and I find they make a big difference in my fitness because I feel more motivated when I can see how close I am to my goals - gotta keep in shape to look good in those bikinis, right! The Fitbit Flex is perfect because it’s waterproof and super slim and the battery life is decent.
And Lily’s favorite - these rad little bottles which are perfect for smoothies, juices, water etc. The straw has a fixed end so it can’t come out of the bottle or leak - lifesaver when you’re in the car or at the beach! She loves it so much it’s all she wants to drink from now.
Along with denim cutoffs and jandals, that’s all we really need this summer! x
